This is a powerful, amazing, easy to use and store vacuum, I actually like vacuuming now !
Denise –
I just got this today after looking around and noticing it a lot online with folks that live in similar sized apartments. I have a Shark upright vacuum that I use and like but I’ve had a hard time finding a stick vacuum (corded or battery).
I have about a 900 sq ft apartment; 2 bedrooms with carpets and a living room with carpets. The kitchen, hallway, and bathroom at laminate flooring. I have a bit of a zoo here (2 cats, guinea pigs, birds). Lots to clean up after on the floors between pig bedding, litter, hair, bird feathers and discarded seed.
TLDR ——-
Pros:
– Fluffy head was pretty effective at picking up everything on bare floors
– The light on the fluffy head was actually quite useful to SEE where I still needed to go over
– Fluffy head swivel action and size was great for getting into small, tight spaces
– Motorbar head was really good at picking up a lot, between dust, hair, guinea pig bedding, small bits of – hay, seeds from birds, etc
– Motobar head had really good swivel action and good at getting under furniture and into smaller spaces
– really easy to empty the canister without needing to pull anything out*
– comes with a lot of useful attachments
– decent battery life for small spaces
– portable, wouldn’t say it’s overly heavy or cumbersome
– I like that it comes with a wall mount
– ideal for quick cleaning (every couple days, once a week if there’s not big messes, one space vs whole apartment/house)
*time will tell how long this lasts and likely depends on what all had been sucked up
Cons:
– may have made the knuckle area at the base of my thumb a little sore over the duration of use
– I wouldn’t say the wall mount is renter friendly and hard to peg a spot for the setup as I’d rather have this in a utility closet and out of sight
– I feel like this wouldn’t be ideal for a big day of cleaning as it might run out of charge
– long term concern is that it uses a battery and those deplete over time. Risk of not being able to buy a replacement in the future? Maybe…
Meh:
– no real opinion on the trigger as it doesn’t bother me to hold it down as I barely notice with how the unit sits in my hand. Feels like gravity helps and my hand is just there holding the Dyson. Where else would you hold it? I just found myself pressing it when I was working on the canister and similar actions or getting the wand off or on. Pressed it on accident a few times so it takes some getting used to.
————–
I charged up the Dyson to 100% and left it on auto/medium the whole time.
I used the fluffy head first to clean the laminate and the light, whether you might think it’s a gimmick or not, was kind of neat. Way batter than lights I’ve had on previous stick vacuums or uprights. I could see everything and I made sure to make all the necessary passes to pick everything up. I found the fluffy head was pretty effective here in general. It’s not super wide and pretty compact and the swivel was really great so I could get into might tight spaces. I could vacuum under my hall stand no problem. I was able to get in and around my toilet and under the stand over the toilet really easily and that’s not been possible with other units without going to the hose and smaller attachment and getting down and poking around.
Emptied the canister before changing heads. Honestly, gotta say I’ve not had a canister that was this easy to open and empty before. Usually have to give things a good shake. I still had to pull out some of my own hair with how it wraps up around the unit and the filter inside.
Next I used the motorbar header for the carpeted areas. I did a quick check and picked up anything I thought was too big and picked up any pieces of hay from the pigs I didn’t want to get in the Dyson (I’d save that for the bigger Shark upright, honestly).
Similar settings, left it on auto/medium. Not sure how much battery I had left.
Went through the room with the pets (guinea pigs and birds). Not as much here as I’d already done a bit clean since I deep cleaned the bird cage so mostly everything was picked up. I’m not sure if what ended up in the canister was just from the room or also from the pass I did of the hall mat. But I was kind of surprised. I emptied the canister and did a quick pass of the bedroom. I was being lazy here but was getting under most of the bed, night stand, around my fan, up around the baseboard heater. I don’t recall if I emptied the canister again here or just went into the living room. I had more of a mess here to clean up as I moved a guinea pig cage from here into the other room with the rest of the pets. Did a pretty good job picking up the discarded bedding and some smaller pieces of hay I hadn’t picked up as they weren’t too big. Got the alert that I had low power but wasn’t sure what that meant (I think when I finished there was about 15% battery left). Swivel was good here. Easy to get in and around spaces. Really easy to get under the couch. Not quite small enough to really get under the tv stand I have but I got a bit done there. Emptied again, with ease, but had to pull the canister off to pull off stuff that had wrapped around due to collection of my own hair.
As far as the trigger goes for power, it takes some getting used to. I was pushing it on accident while I was removing the wand to empty the canister. Felt like I had an itchy trigger finger, basically. I didn’t find it bad that you had to hold it down the whole time, honestly. I think the only issue I had is maybe how the handle was resting against the base knuckle of my thumb. I found that got a bit sore and would change hands for a bit here and there to give it a break.
I haven’t used any of the other attachments. I might use the hair screw tool on my couch at some point to see what it does. The crevice tool will probably get used at some point for really tight spaces or where the other attachments couldn’t use used. This would be great for cleaning my car, now that I think about it. I’ve not had a battery vacuum I could just take down to the garage to do a once over.
I’m not sure if I will install the wall mount since I think I’d rather have it in a utility closet but I don’t have access to an outlet from there… I’d basically need to use an extension cord and feed that out from under the door into the bathroom (closes outlet and keeps the cord out of the way). Not pretty but… best place I can think for it as all other outlet locations are real awkward and the mount uses hefty screws. Not exactly renter friendly.

I purchased the Dyson V15 Detect for the anti-tangle carpet brush. We have 2 large dogs and 3 cats, so pet hair is a regular occurance in our house, and I was so tired of having to remove all the hair stuck in the brush roller of other vacuums. I’ve attached a picture of the brush after I fi ished cleaning my whole house. There’s no tangling, nothing stuck! I am impressed with the new technology that made this possible. The V15 has great suction, renowned from Dyson, and the new way to empty the bin is great as I no longer need to reach inside to dislodge dirt which is gross. This is my 3rd Dyson over the years and very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend it.

Dyson v15 detect Plus doesnāt work on my standard pile ( not shag, not high pile, not sculpted) rugs.
Using the āDigital Motorbar cleaner headā, which āadapts power across different floor typesā, the bar turns and then stops, machine makes a whirring noise because itās powering but wheel doesnāt turn. I lift the head and start again only to have it happen over and over. In those moments when the wheel is turning it is extremely difficult to push across the rug. Further, one of the attachments arrived with dust inside it- looks used.
I tried troubleshooting. The Dyson app is completely useless and only does a good job of trying to sell you another Dyson product. When l entered the serial number it gave me instructions for a product that cleans with water -not my model- useless.
I couldnāt find a clear explanation of whatās in the box, assembly or which attachments should be used for specific cleaning jobs. I found a User Manual online that shouldāve been included in the box-or at least a QR code that links to it. That is also unclear about attachment uses.
I finally phoned Dyson customer service who wanted to do a video call to see the product in action. I advised l couldnāt do that right now and they hung up on me!
The question is: Is this product not suitable for rugs? The marketing copy says Yes!
That said, the suction is amazing. Itās more weight than l expected and requires much more effort than a traditional canister vacuum. Cordless feature is a pleasure. Itās going back.

This is by far the best vacuum I have ever used for hard surface floors. It doesnāt blow debris around and actually sucks up everything it rolls over. Bring do light and cordless you can use it everyday for just a few quick minutes and keep your floors pleasant to walk over with bare feet. And the best is the green light that works like a black light and shows you where things are. Lights up even a grain of sugar on the kitchen floor. I have been raving about this vacuum to everyone I know. The only downside is you still need to keep your separate vacuum for carpets. The reviews I read prior to purchase were correct that this does not work on carpet. But if you have a lot of hard flooring of any kind, this is the best purchase you can make.

Best stick vacuum I’ve had for picking up dog hair. Works great on hardwood, tile and my carpet. Lightweight and charge lasts for about 60min.

Es potente y efectiva. Ligera y prĆ”ctica. Es la mejor aspiradora del Mercado. Deja todo limpĆsimo. Pisos, muebles, el autoā¦ todo! SĆŗper recomendadaā¦

I love this vacuum. It does a great job. It makes vacuuming fun and easy. Can get to hard to reach areas too! Didnāt realize how much pet hair these animals put out. It was a little adjustment learning to keep the button pushed in and more weight in my arm. But after a week you donāt even think of it anymore. I think the battery life of one hour is misleading. Cause it depends on if you are using it on carpet or hardwood. Max or eco modes. For this reason and because itās so expensive I feel they should include another battery. But I would definitely buy it again. Love it!!
GF Dad/Mom –
A friend of mine received the V11 for Christmas and let me try it out, and I had to have one of my own. After doing some comparisons and reading the reviews, I ended up buying the V15 Detect… although I almost decided to get the Gen5Outsize, or the Gen5Detect. What made me decide on this one was the trigger power button. The newer models have a power button. One of the things I recognized when trying out the V11 was how the trigger power button would save on battery power as it turns on and off the machine easily without needing to use both hands. I’ve seen reviews where people would prefer an “on all the time” button as is now the case with the Gen5’s, so I guess it’s a matter of preference. But being able to control everything with one hand was my preference… as well as a mind toward conserving battery power while cleaning by not having to turn it on and off when I moved from area to area in my home. The vacuum just stops running when you release the trigger.
When I received the V15 Detect this morning, I felt like it was Christmas all over again! Luckily, it was half way charged right out of the box, and easy to assemble. You hardly need directions to figure it out. Things just snap together in a pretty common sense fashion. I have hardwood floors with medium pile large room rugs in every room. The stairs going down to my basement are high pile (think 1970’s shag carpet!) and I was most concerned about whether the vacuum would be able to handle those. But it did without skipping a beat! I was able to vacuum my dining room, kitchen, stairs leading to our downstairs den, and the den and hallway itself before the vacuum was telling me it was almost out of power.
If you have the vacuum set to “auto” then the time left on the battery will fluctuate based on the floor type and amount of power it is having to use to suck up the dirt. So, it could get a little confusing going from “5 minutes” left to “15 minutes” left based on floor type. But once you figure out what’s going on, that fluctuation is pretty easy to get used to and plan your cleaning accordingly.
The suction of the V15 is comparable to any other vacuum (corded) that I’ve owned. And, the edge cleaning is a necessary plus. I am upgrading from a corded Shark that I was not too pleased with how well it would suck up dirt against the wall and and edges of furniture. The Dyson V15 did a phenomenal job at this.
The two downsides that I found through my first use of the V15 was the knuckle area of my thumb did begin to feel a little sore from pushing the vacuum as on medium pile large rugs it would increase its suction power and become slightly more difficult to push. But, the roller never stopped spinning. I had read and watched multiple reviews that complained that the suction power of the Gen5’s were so strong that the rollers would stop spinning on medium pile carpets. I did not experience one instance of this, even on the shag carpeted stairs with the V15.
The second downside was that the V15 roller did stop when I attempted to vacuum on my bathroom throw rugs. This didn’t bother me much as they can be shaken out. But, corded vacuums I’ve had would at least allow me to awkwardly vacuum these types rugs… although not easily.
I had also chosen the V15 over the Gen5Outsize because of the size of the motorhead. I wanted a smaller one that could fit into smaller spaces rather than a larger one that comes on the Gen5Outsize. The smaller sized head and the design of the stick vacuum, the way the motorhead turns so easily, makes the V15 very easy to maneuver.
It would be nice if the V15 would allow you to have a button that would turn off the roller and just have suction on the motorhead. While the V15 comes with a bare floor cleaning attachment; it is kind of a hassle to have to stop vacuuming to go get it and detach the carpet motorhead and then attach the bare floor one. Although, the light that allows you to see dust more easily is a plus that allows for a deeper clean of your bare floors.
I really like the ease of emptying the bin. All you have to do is detach the stick and then pull the red lever and it opens the dust bin and scrapes down the vacuumed refuse into the trash. Pure genius! We also have several cats. And after I was finished vacuuming I looked at the roller on the motorhead and it was clean of any hair. This certainly has not been the case with my previous Shark, or other vacuums where I would have to get out a pair of scissors and detangle rolled up hair from the roller was such a pain. The V15 just sucked up the hair and it didn’t get tangled up in the roller. That, in itself, makes me love this machine!
As I had read complaints about the wall attachment for charging, and having to put holes in your wall for it, I decided to purchase a vacuum stand — which is pretty sturdy and was only around $40.00. All my attachments fit on it and it allows my V15 to stand upright while charging. I have also purchased another battery to extend my cleaning time and will get a charger for it as it plugs into the battery itself rather than the vacuum to charge.
I know this is a long review, but I just couldn’t be more thrilled by something I’ve spent money on… if you vacuum, you need this machine. You NEED it. Not having to hunt for a plug-in from room to room, trip over a power cord, stop cleaning to untangle a power cord from a chair leg or other object, mess with running over the power cord, deal with your power cord not being long enough to seamlessly go from room to room, go through the whole process of unwrapping and rewrapping a power cord, is a blessing. Who wants to have to go through all of that when cleaning house can be time consuming and tiresome enough as it is? A cordless vacuum is one of the best inventions of the modern era in my opinion! And the Dyson V15 is comparable to any vacuum I’ve owned… including previous Dyson’s and Shark’s. Get this vacuum. You won’t regret it. It will revolutionize the way you clean. I dreaded vacuuming before I learned about these cordless vacuum’s. Now, I almost look forward to it because it’s so easy.
One final plus… Over Christmas I tripped our breaker twice using my Shark vacuum. While I had an electrician correct the fundamental issue, (my office was on the same 15 amp breaker that was blowing when I would plug in the vacuum), when he was rewiring my breaker box to prevent future instances of tripping it, he showed me that my vacuum, when in use, drew up to 9.5 amps. The computer and other electrical equipment in my office was already pulling about 5.5 amps. So, I won’t have to be concerned about tripping a breaker with a cordless vacuum.
I have owned two corded Dyson’s in the past. Both were pretty durable. I am hoping the V15 Detect proves itself to be just as durable. Fingers are crossed. I will add that the V15 Detect was rated the best vacuum of 2023 and winter 2024, along with the V11. Making the decision to spend as much as a Dyson costs can be difficult. But, you do have to pay for quality… and Dyson IS quality. There just isn’t another vacuum out there — no matter what you may read and other companies may say — that equals the quality of a Dyson. That is not to say there are not other quality vacuums out there. I didn’t dislike my Shark… but even though it was corded, it doesn’t come close to the V15 in edge cleaning or suction. I would recommend the V15 Detect wholeheartedly. It will save you a couple hundred bucks over their newer model, and is as good, and even better, than any corded vacuum I’ve ever used.

After wasting money on maids who did a terrible job, I invested in the Dyson V15. Much cheaper than a maid and amazing. This vacuum has incredible features to find dust and dirt for you! Superior to my big Dyson with the ball, and perfect to carry with my lifting limit of 10 pounds – it weighs 6.8. I am utterly amazed at how easy it is to operate, to empty and store. Sturdy appliance and good battery. Yes, I deserve this.

We really like our Dyson! This is our first Dyson. After shopping around for months, we settled on this model. It was fast to set up and install, and makes vacuuming regularly super easy. We had another brand of wireless vacuum before, but it lost power after 10 minutes. The Dyson stays powered up. It is also easy to purchase a variety of useful attachments.
