This bike is Amazing!
I recently had a job change where riding a bike would be more convenient than driving to work. After some research and considering several different options, I decided on the matte charcoal Schwinn Coston e-bike.
This bike has not disappointed. Bike shipped super fast. There were a couple of spots on the box that were damaged, but the bike was double boxed and in perfect condition when opened. The bike was 3/4 of the way assembled. The remainder of the assembly was very straight forward and easy due to the very clear step by step directions in the owner’s manual and supplied tools. Once assembled, the bike took about 4 hours for the initial battery charge.
I was a little worried about which size to purchase. I am a 5’9 male and purchased the L/XL size according to the size chat, and the size chart is right on.
I’ve ridden heavy single speed cruiser bikes for a while and was excited to see how much the electric assist would help. The bike did NOT disappoint. The e-bike handlebar display and key pad are straight foward and easy to use. My 1st ride was a 4 mile ride around town, and it was awesome. Even with just the electric assist on the “1” setting, hills were effortless. I can honestly say this was one of the most enjoyable bike rides I’ve had in years.
I was also curious how the electric assist would work while braking or just coasting. I was pleasantly surprised how responsive the brakes are and also how the electric assist stops when you are braking.
1st ride was great, but I purchased this bike to be a commuter bike for every day. Again, I am very happy with this purchase. I can get to my new job in the same amount of time or less than if I was driving to work. The 5 different electric assist levels make it easy to accelerate from stop signs and reach a great cruising speed in no time. It’s very well built, sturdy, and a very comfortable ride. I would highly recommend this bike to anyone in the market for an electric hybrid bike.

The pedal assist works great at level 1 but continues to thrust for a second after you stop pedaling. It does ride very smooth and did not need pedal assist unless it was a steep uphill. The mechanical brakes are not very responsive, see other reviews. You will need to learn to slow down in anticipation of a stop. The height is another thing. I was not able to find the bike measurements. So I found a small/medium bike in a store, I am 5ft 6inches tall, and it was too big (tall). The small/xtrasmall was the perfect fit, 26 inch wheels. I only had the choice of red but it is a very nice frosty red, like candy to the eyes. The lights work well. I have not taken it for a long ride so I cannot comment on the battery life but I plan to buy a larger battery if it runs out too quick. The overall price was good. It did arrive with bent rear fender forks but was able to straighten them out to look decent. Assembly was quick and easy but had to use my own tools. The tools supplied are no good.

I bought from Schwinn because of their reputation. I am 5’6″ with average build and I can not reach the pedals from the lowest setting on their S/M bike even despite being well within their height range for the bike. I called and asked if perhaps they shipped the wrong seat pole with the bike and their customer service was rude and dismissive. They eventually agreed to send a new seat and pole but I only got the pole. I called Schwinn again and was told that my only option on a $2000 bike was to see if I could find an after market seat that would work better. Even after I explained that even my 6′ son found the seat too high. Customer service said “everybody is built differently”. So unless you have the legs of someone who is taller than about 6’2″ DON’T buy this bike as you will have a headache dealing with having to return it or spending even more money because their engineers don’t know how to adjust for people’s height. It’s very pretty though. I hate to have to return it but it is unsafe the way it is.

Iām gonna start by saying, if youāre looking for a heavy, powerful, brute of an electric bike, this isnāt it. Which is exactly what I didnāt want. The heavy duty fat tire e-bikes are just too large and cumbersome for me. I wanted an e-bike that feels like a normal bike. Iām not a daily commuter. My needs are for campgrounds and joyrides. This bike is it.
Assembly wasnāt difficult but wouldāve been much easier had I watched Schwinns assembly video first. The instruction manual is generic for all their bike models so some things arenāt explained in detail. I enjoy assembling things so it wasnāt a bad experience for me.
Power. This bike has sufficient power for me. Iām 145lb and 5ā6ā (XS/S bike- perfect size for me w/seat all the way down). So far Iāve put about 2 miles just driving around my property (only on rolling hills, grass, and gravel terrain) and this bike supports me wonderfully. Did I experience some lagging going up hill, yes, but I was also figuring out the pedal assist levels and gears. Once I figured out the bike and became comfortable, I was able to use the pedals/power more efficiently when ascending. My husband (210-ish maybe?) couldnāt get it to climb the first time he rode it, however he is use to just hitting the throttle on his himiway and accelerating.
I feel like I will probably be attaching our daughters trailer to the husbands himiway before I attach it to the schwinn simply because of the battery power.
Schwinn customer service: I contacted schwinn prior to purchasing to get some specs to make a decision. Jasmine, the Schwinn associate for e-bikes, was wonderful before purchase and post-purchase. I was happy to be able to speak to someone about service and parts. I did order a larger battery from Schwinn that Iām excited to receive.
